  1. The project aimed at providing awareness to the learners about the HIVirus together with teaching learners to give to the less fortunate. Myself and Lukayla Donel created a short video to explain to the learners what our social action project was about, because we focused on both Foundation and intermediate phase, we had to bear in mind the magnitude of the information we provided about the virus as well as how it can be transmitted. We shone light on the misconceptions of the virus and that they as learners can be friends with a learner that has the virus. During the assembly presentation for the foundation phase I asked the learners questions to ensure that they understood the video. Learners were aske to bring non-perishable foods that we can donate to the oraganization on behalf of the school, we as the students were grateful for the amount of donations we recieved, teachers also encouraged learners to bring foods and we apperciated that very much. The school was kind enough to post our notification on their D6 platform to inform the parents of the food drive, we also put up posters around the school to remind learners and teachers about the food drive. The experience was very heartwarming for me, I had joy in my heart that we could donate foods to the organization and they apperciated it. Teaching is about giving back, not only to the learners but to the community at large. I now understand what they mean when they say teaching is a work of heart.

  2. I definitely have a better understanding of the profession, the passion to help other is more than enough fulfilment then anything in this world. I love helping people where I can.

  3. It has taught me that teaching goes beyond the classroom and that it has purpose in this world apart from instilling knowledge. The skills that i gained was how to initiate the drive together with putting in all the work but it is all worth it in the end.

  4. We can only hope that the school will continue with the initiative as they have had food drives in the past.

I really enjoyed working with you on this project Tracey. You were an excellent partner. We communicated well and we worked effectively to the common goal of helping the Haven. This project helped me see the importance of giving back to the community and working together with others to educate both teachers and learners on the community projects.

Well done Tracey on a well prepared and organised project. I can see how much you enjoyed participating in this project by raising awareness. I think it is lovely that the school encouraged your ideas and got involved to assist you where they could. I can agree with you that teachers work does go above and beyond the classroom and I am glad we got to experience this during our Teaching experience.

Well done to a successful Implementation of the Social Action project.

Well written reflection on your social action campaign!

I love how you incorporated different approaches to educating all the grades about the virus and educating them at their age appropriate level. It sounded like an absolute success and is so heart-warming to hear what you have learned through this campaign and doing more as a teacher other than just within the classroom.

Well done to a successful social action project and all the best for what the future holds for you as a teacher!
